Nautilus Insurance Group
Our Mission
Our mission at Nautilus is to achieve superior underwriting results leading to a stable, consistent and financially secure company for our employees, general agents and policyholders.
Company Description
Nautilus, a member company of W. R. Berkley Corporation, commenced operations in September 1985. We write commercial excess and surplus lines business, which allows us to react quickly to changes in market conditions or legal climate, in all states and the District of Columbia. Our admitted business is written in a limited number of states for better than average risks that have a lower susceptibility to loss.
How Nautilus Is Different
PEOPLE We have built a reputation as a strong underwriting company and respected industry leader with a passion for customer service excellence. We attract and retain employees with a culture that promotes creativity, integrity and respect. We have a broad base of underwriting and claims professionals, many of whom have industry experience in excess of 25 years. At the same time, we are recruiting, hiring and training young professionals who over time learn the business and develop their skills through extensive mentoring from our tenured employees.
PARTNERSHIPS Wholesale General Agents are used exclusively to distribute our products. Nautilus is highly selective when appointing agents who must share our business philosophy and vision. Many of our agent relationships date back to our inception in 1985, supporting our approach of choosing partners for the long term who share our values and underwriting discipline.
PRODUCTS We offer a product line-up that complements our strategy of being a stable and consistent market for low-tomoderate hazard risks for the following lines of business:
General Liability – We have a broad appetite, specializing in risks that are consistent in profile and exposure. We also write the more complicated or specialized risks on a submit basis.
Property – We offer terms and conditions on better than average risks, primarily with limits of $1,000,000 or less, utilizing our unique rating structure.
Miscellaneous Professional Liability – We focus on light-tomoderate professional liability exposures on over 100 classes of business, with coverage available on a mono-line or a package basis.
Liquor Liability – We are willing to provide this coverage either on a mono-line or package basis for a variety of risks in the restaurant or bar business.
Excess/Umbrella Liability – This product is available via an intuitive online system, Nautilus Excess Express, which allows our agents to rate, quote, bind, and issue policies in a matter of minutes.
Inland Marine/Crime/ Equipment Breakdown – This product offering includes contractor’s equipment and tools, installation floaters, accounts receivable, and small limits of bailees’ and crime coverage. We also offer equipment breakdown coverage that protects the equipment, machinery and systems that run the businesses we insure.
PLATFORMS Our agent partners have access to our awardwinning agent portal - nautilusagents.com - which provides one-stop access to a multitude of underwriting tools, including our eGuide, Rapid Rater, management reports, marketing materials, policy forms, applications and more.
The on-line Rapid Rater was designed to support our flexible underwriting philosophy and is an agency favorite among our technology tools for either a quick indication or a full quote.
The Nautilus Mobile website is available to our agent partners and was designed to enhance how business is conducted while on the road. It provides our customers an easy and convenient way to promote their products and services, via the tablet format, iPad or other.
